disagreeing with my views at once got up from his chair and
excitedly said to me "that everybody in the Colony knew how I performed my duties; that I only had one hour's work a day, and
left everything to the clerks, attending to other business, and
that I went bouncing about".

I then replied "You have made an unjust attack upon me. I consider that Your Lordship is wrong in your
views; that you have made an unjust and cowardly attack upon me" He then said "how dare you say that i have made a cowardly
attack upon you ?" I replied "Yes, My Lord, you have taken
advantage of your position to attack me most unjustly. This is
the first time in my life that such an unjust expression has
been cast upon my character. I am known to be one of the most
hardworking officials in the Colony, and after 32 years' service i consider Your Lordship has made an unjust attack upon de", and
left his Chambers highly indignant because he had grossly in-
suited me and falsely accused me in the presence of leading
professionals and my Deputy, knowing very well that he being the
Chief Justice and in his own Chambers, my tongue was tied and
that I was unable to reply as i should wish. Hence the meaning
of my expression "cowardly".

On my return to my Chambers, I saw there
seated one of the Solicitors of the Colony, Mr. M. J. D.
Stephens, waiting to be attended upon. On telling him that i
was sorry I could not attend upon him just then as I felt so
much annoyed at what had just teken piece, which i repeated to
hin, Mr. Stephens, advised me at once, before the professionals
who had been present during the Chief Justice's attack upon me,
had left his room, to return to the Chief Justice and ask him
then and there, having regard to my position of Registrar, to
apologise to me for his incorrect staterents mentioned above.
